OGPA - Enhancing collaboration in Ocean governance
The oceans contributes to our living environment, by stabilizing temperatures, absorbing carbon, cycling oxygen and by providing approximately 3 billion people with their main source of protein through fish and seafood, and much more. The survival of humans is indispensably linked to the health of the ocean.
On the flip side, and as a consequence of human interactions, the ocean more than any time in the past, now faces serious environmental challenges, which threaten our survival. This calls for integrated ocean management to ensure sustainable use of ocean resources in ways that preserve the health and resilience of marine ecosystems and improve livelihoods, balancing protection and production.
